Work on the new bus station planned to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹ 25 crore in a little over seven acre NSP land near the bypass here is expected to begin soon with the executing agencies concerned expediting the process of finalising the tenders for the mega project.
A new bus station has become imperative in view of the dearth of space in the existing bus station in the heart of the town, which is struggling to cope with the heavy rush of passengers. With the laying of foundation stone for the new bus station by Minister for Information Technology K T Rama Rao here last week, the much awaited facility is likely to become reality in one or two years.
The agencies concerned have reportedly roped in the services of a New Delhi-based architect to execute the mega project modelled on the lines of some of the ultramodern bus stations in Gujarat. The new bus station complex will have 25 boarding platforms, five alighting platforms, a cafeteria, crew rest rooms and other modern facilities, said Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar.

Tenders for the new bus station complex have already been floated and the civil works on the mega project are likely to begin by August.
