Six children lost their lives by drowning in two separate incidents in the State on Sunday. In a tragic incident, four children, including two brothers, aged between 12 and 14 years, drowned in a local tank at Narsapuram under the Padbanabham police station limits in Visakhapatnam district on Sunday evening.

The deceased were identified as K. Kalyan (14), K. Mohan (12), S. Vinay (14), J. Simhachalam (14). Kalyan and Mohan were brothers. It is learnt that the children had gone to the Pekkala cheruvu (local tank) for a bath after playing cricket in a nearby ground on Sunday evening. While taking bath, the four reportedly slipped into the water and drowned.

The incident came to light after a local resident alerted villagers after he found a cricket bat and clothes left on the shore around 7.30 p.m. A police team from Padmanabham, led by Inspector S. Kanta Rao, fished out the bodies with the help of locals.
