Water level in Nagarjunasagar dam touches 545 feet

Water level in Nagarjunasagar reservoir reached 545.40 on Monday evening.

After eight crest gates of Srisailam reservoir were lifted on Saturday morning, water level in Nagarjunasagar is gradually reaching the 590-ft indicator.

At 3 p.m. on Monday, after a brief lull in rain, water level touched 545 ft. - a rise of 12 ft in about 40 hours. The inflows were recorded at 2,08,328 cusecs, filling a capacity of 198 tmc., as against its full capacity of 312 tmc. Meanwhile, to maximise the benefit to farmers in the ayacut, Nalgonda MP and Rythu Samanvaya Samithi chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy said water will be released through the left bank starting -- August 22.

‘On and off’ method would be followed to ensure judicious use of water, Mr. Reddy told farmers here, addressing an awareness session on water release for the ongoing season. Water will be released in phases – the first release for 20 days and the subsequent ones separated by one week each, would be a better idea, Mr. Reddy said Requesting farmers not to waste the resource, he said that tanks in the low-level AMRP canal area would also be filled.

District Collector Gaurav Uppal, Rajya Sabha MP B. Lingaiah Yadav and Miryalaguda MLA N. Bhaskar Rao were present.
