An hour and a half before the first Assembly session of the newly-born State of Telangana began, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan appointed Nethi Vidyasagar as Chairman in-charge of the Legislative Council and Congress veteran K. Jana Reddy as Pro tem Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
They took the oath at a brief function in Raj Bhavan, in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and over a dozen senior leaders of different political parties. Immediately after the oath-taking the Chief Minister hugged Mr. Vidyasagar and Mr. Jana Reddy.
