Uttam tenders resignation as MLA

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday tendered his resignation as an MLA consequent to his election as Member of Parliament from Nalgonda constituency last month.

Mr. Reddy, who represents Huzurnagar constituency, met the Legislature Secretary, V. Narasimha Charyulu, and handed over his resignation letter to him.

The TPCC chief has been elected to the Assembly five times since 1999. He made his debut in the Assembly from Kodad constituency in 1999 and retained the seat in 2004. Later, he shifted to Huzurnagar and won from the seat in 2009, 2014 and 2018. In the elections held in April, he contested from Nalgonda Parliamentary constituency and won the seat. Speaking to reporters after submitting his resignation, Mr. Reddy thanked the people of Kodad and Huzurnagar for reposing faith in him and sending him to the Assembly five times. He said as an MP, he would now have the opportunity to not only serve the constituents of Kodad and Huzurnagar, but other five segments in the Parliamentary constituency.

Late in the night, Mr. Charyulu, in a notification, said Mr. Uttam has resigned to his seat in the Legislative Assembly with effect from June 5. Consequently, a vacancy has arisen to Huzurnagar Assembly, the notification added.
