TS to make Nagarjunasagar a world class tourism site

The Telangana government is embarking on a plan to develop Nagarjunasagar as a world class tourist destination in general and to Buddhists in particular.

On the third and concluding day of the training programme for party legislators, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao visited Buddhavanam, the Buddhist theme park close to Nagarjunasagar dam and interacted with officials on plans for further development of the site.

He told the officials that the State government will constitute a special development authority on a par with Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple Development Authority to convert the place into a must-visit destination for Buddhists.

Officials in the Tourism Department told

The Hindu that the Chief Minister is keen on reviving the Rs. 50 crore project for creating a flower garden, on the lines of Brindavan Garden located in Mysore, in an extent of over 500 acres land.

Though as per schedule the Chief Minister was to spend just 10 minutes in Buddhavanam, he spent over an hour there.

He also enquired about the pending works at Buddhavanam and assured the officials that funds will be granted on priority to complete the works.

Asking the officials to complete the construction of boating points on Telangana side in Nagarjunasagar soon, he directed the officials to start the operation of boats to Nandikonda from the left bank canal side within a few months.

Special officer

A special officer will also be appointed to head the Nagarjunasagar Development Authority to oversee all the development projects to be undertaken by the State government.
