TRS wins Narayankhed byelection defeating Cong.

The TRS candidate M. Bhupal Reddy maintained lead over his nearest Congress rival P. Sanjeev Reddy from the first round and won by a majority of 53,625 votes.

Scoring a hat-trick the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Tuesday repeated the miracle of Warangal by-election and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) poll results. The TRS candidate Mahareddy Bhupal Reddy defeated Congress by a margin of 53,625 votes.

The results were declared at 11.45 a.m. at Narayanakhed counting centre. From the first round onwards, the TRS candidate Bhupal Reddy maintained lead over his nearest Congress rival Patlolla Sanjeev Reddy.

Telugu Desam Party candidate stood a poor third and lost his deposit.

The TRS got 93,076 votes followed by Congress 39,451 and TDP 14,787. The entire success in by-election was being attributed to the efforts of Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao.

Lead for TRS in counting of votes in the by-election continued from the first round that commenced at 8 a.m. at Polytechnic College located on the outskirts of the town on Tuesday. Counting was expected to get completed by 11 a.m. in 21 rounds on 14 tables.

A total of 1,54,866 votes were polled in the election which registered more than 82 per cent voting, highest ever in the constituency so far. Migrant voters, who usually do not bother to participate in the elections, made it a point to come and cast their vote.

Tight security was put in place and noone was allowed inside the counting centre without valid pass.
