Long forgotten attire and traditions have come to the fore with people celebrating the Sankranti, the festival of harvest across the district.
Women, particularly girls in their traditional dresses spent long hours vying with one another in drawing beautiful rangoli patterns in front of their homes in all colonies. One of the highlights of the festival was “Bommala Koluvu” a thematic arrangement of toys. This was brought to life at the residence of former minister Capt V Laxmikantha Rao in Hanamkonda where large number of his followers and TRS leaders gathered to exchange pleasantries.
Scores of girls from many foreign countries such as Sudan, Nepal, Uganda, Afghanistan, Yemen, Cameroon and others rejoiced taking part in the Sankranthi festival celebrations organised by the non-government organisation Bala Vikasa at its training centre in Kazipet. They too drew patterns and decorated them with colours. They were all here at the centre undergoing a four-week training in communication development. Public representatives and officials greeted the people on the eve of festival. They included deputy chief minister T Rajaiah, speaker S Madhusudhana Chary, minister A Chandulal, parliamentary secretary D Vinay Bhaskar, MLAs, MPs and leaders of different political parties, DIG B Malla Reddy and SP AK Jha.
