In a first, streetlights at Nawabpet village in Hatnoora mandal in the district are being operated with a remote control from Hyderabad!
For the first time in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, such an experiment was taken up by Energy Services Company (ESCo) – an organisation floated by Power Grid Corporation, Power Finance Corporation and Rural Electrification Corporation – which is extending the service in the name of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) to Nawabpet, which was adopted by Collector D. Ronald Rose. With the support pouring in from District Panchayat Office, the EESL has installed about 155 LED lights on the existing electric poles. The number of LED lights was restricted to 155 though the requirement was 191 due to lack of sufficient electric poles. About 150 LED bulbs of 20 Watt capacity were fitted to the poles while bulbs of 36 Watt were installed in five junctions.
Four boxes of Centralised Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) were also fitted to the poles in the village through which all these 155 streetlight connections activated. The CCMS boxes have been fitted with a SIM card which can be controlled through a system in Hyderabad. The EESL has also developed a system through which streetlights at Nawabpet can be switched on at 6.30 p.m. and switched off at 5.30 a.m. every day. Besides, those monitoring the system can also measure consumption of power in each streetlight and other details on a mobile phone even while on the move. “This experiment is being conducted for the first time in Nawabpet and so far, we are successful. While a 60-Watt bulb consumes six units of power for 100 hours, a nine-Watt bulb consumes 0.09 units for the same period. Hence power consumption would be reduced considerably,” said an official of EESL.
