Party to take legal recourse

The Telugu Desam Party will approach judiciary on the Rythu Samithis that are being constituted by the ruling party in villages to verify land records.

The party questioned the legality and the manner of constitution which TDP senior leader Revuri Prakash Reddy opined would lead to division in villages. They would only create bad blood among farmers who are already neglected and exploited lot in the country, he alleged.

“The ruling party leaders are visiting villages and nominating members of their choice to Rythu Samithis. There should be a village meeting where unanimous decision is taken on who should be a member,” Mr. Reddy said.

The Rythu Samithi will serve as vote bank to the ruling party. Farmers are being threatened and lured into samithis. If farmers do not agree to the proposal of ruling party leaders, they will be denied all the benefits such as ₹4,000 per acre input subsidy and tractors on subsidy among others. The samithi is also aimed at the alienating land from poor SC and ST farmers who have been tilling land for long without proper documents, he alleged.

The Congress party too selected some influential persons in the villages as Adarsha Rythu and it failed to yield any result to the party or to the villages. Now, the TRS plans would also meet the same fate. Moreover, it will disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the villages, the TDP leader warned.
