Senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu Tamilisai Soundararajan has been named Governor of Telangana.
Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan replaces Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan, who has been continuing in the post for the past nine years. Mr. Narasimhan has not been given any new post. Mr. Narasimhan was appointed Governor of the then united Andhra Pradesh in 2010 during the peak of the statehood agitation. His tenure continued after bifurcation when he was Governor of two successor States for five years before the appointment of Bishwa Bhushan Harichandan as Governor of Andhra Pradesh recently.
The Governor-designate is the Tamil Nadu BJP chief and contested the previous Lok Sabha polls against Kanimozhi from the Thoothukudi constituency unsuccessfully. Born in Nagarcoil of Kanyakumari district on June 2, 1961, Dr. Tamilsai Soundararajan is a medical doctor by profession. She pursued her MBBS at Madras Medical College and obstetrics and gynaecology at Dr. MGR Medical University, both in Chennai. She also did her specialist training in Sonology and FET therapy in Canada.

Dr. Tamilsai Soundararajan, a visiting consultant to multiple hospitals, was elected student leader during her MBBS days. Though hailing from a traditionally Congress family, she was attracted by the BJP ideology and started full-time work for the party. She served the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP in various capacities, including state general secretary of the medical wing, state general secretary and state vice-president before being elevated to the post of the party’s national secretary in 2013.
