Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan left for New Delhi on Tuesday evening to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Sources said the Governor is expected to meet the Home Minister and appraise him of the developments back in Telangana and in all likelihood submit a report on the prevailing situation.

Her sudden visit to New Delhi comes amid the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is already in national capital, for treatment. So far Mr. Rao has not officially attended any function or met any leaders of the political parties. Neither has he sought any appointment with the Union Ministers. Interestingly, the Chief Minister also did not attend the inaugural function of DMK office in New Delhi.

The visit also assumes significance given the gap that has widened between Pragati Bhavan and the Raj Bhavan in recent past. A series of events beginning with the delay in clearing the file pertaining to the nomination of TRS leader P. Kaushik Reddy under the nominated quota to the Legislative Council, to approving the notification for election of Legislative Council chairperson and Government’s decision not to invite the Governor to the address of the joint session of the Legislature on the first day of budget session culminated in the present ongoing rift.

Sources said ever since difference cropped up, the Governor during her visit to Medaram to offer prayers at Samakka Saralamma jatara was not received by district officials. Same happened when she visited temple town of Yadadri recently where only the temple officials received her while none of the ruling party elected representatives called on her.

Even the pre-Ugadi celebrations at Raj Bhavan saw the entire TRS Cabinet and others skipping the event.

Raj Bhavan sources played down the significance of the Delhi visit claiming that it was almost three months since Dr. Tamilisai had made the trip. She is expected to return on Wednesday evening, it was pointed out.
