In a bid to improve public health, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) has announced the establishment of 10 centres of excellence at the varsity. They would be focusing on rendering quality medical services in addition to research and development spanning across various disciplines of the health sector.
The centres would also cater to the needs of education and help in developing themes for medical research (on a longterm basis) besides creating infrastructure for clinical trials and healthcare research.

“Each centre will invite specialists from across the globe and develop healthcare-related programmes. For example, a centre focusing on cancer will also host research on allied sciences, ultimately turning the facility into a destination centre and platform for innovation. We also intend to become a preeminent nodal site for tele-health, covering aspects like distance education, trading, remote presence for extending speciality services, including ICU, emergency, trauma care, stroke, cancer, diabetes and much more,” he added.
Mobile Health Initiative
In addition to the proposed centres of excellence, SVIMS is also planning tap the potential of mobile communications, via the Mobile Health initiative, christened as M Health, and offer better mechanisms in delivery, mobility and payment linked to healthcare.
