State urged to develop universities

Government urged to increase budgetary provision for salaries and pensions of employees

The Telangana government should come up with a road map for development of universities in the State as they are in abject neglect, said former Vice-Chancellor V. Gopal Reddy.

Though the universities were established by the State Act, the governments were not showing any interest on them. The universities are temples of higher learning and they should be on top priority of the State government, he said.

Round table meeting

He was speaking at a round table meeting held at Kakatiya University here on Thursday on ‘Telangana Universities, Problems: Responsibility of the State Government’.

It was organised as part of series of agitations by Telangana State Universities Employees JAC.

Key role in agitation

JAC convenor Kanchi Manohar of OU reminded that the university employees played a key role in separate Telangana movement on a par with the State government employees but are being deprived of many privileges.

Presiding over the meeting AKUT president M. Saranga Pani said that it was the responsibility of the State government to increase the budget to meet salaries and pensions of the employees.

KU Non-Teaching Employees JAC chairman P. Kondal Reddy, convener Kola Shankar, P.Venkatram Narsaiah, teachers, staff members in large number attended the meeting.
