The collection of artefacts from megalithic burial sites on display at the Archeological Museum of the SR&BGNR Government Arts and Science College caught the attention of the visiting peer team from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru.
A three member NAAC team, comprising former vice-chancellor of Berhampur University J. K. Mohapatra, former Registrar of University of Mumbai K. Venkataramani and former principal of Scott Christian College, Nagercoil, Jezer Jebanesan, on Monday began its two-day inspection of the college for the third cycle of assessment and accreditation.
They visited the Archaeological Museum of the Department of History at College here on Monday.

Pioneering work
The faculty of History Department explained to the team about the archaeological excavations conducted by the department in association with faculty from University of Hyderabad at the megalithic site on the sprawling college campus a few years ago. The faculty and students of the department showed the archaeological findings including various types of pottery collected during the digging.
The History Department staff also explained to the visiting team about the DNA analysis conducted on the samples of human bone remains at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, and the elementary analysis of the samples of ancient pottery at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, among other pioneering scientific investigations.

The team visited different departments, library and other facilities at the Government Degree and PG College before interacting with the staff as well as students, college sources said.
