‘Special turmeric cell in Nizamabad soon’

Union Commerce Minister allocated staff, says MP Kavitha

Member of Parliament K. Kavitha said that special turmeric cell with an officer and four other staff will start functioning soon in the district. Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu allotted the staff on her request, she said here on Tuesday.

Asking Collector M. Ram Mohan Rao to identify a suitable office space for the cell, she said that it would go a long way in helping turmeric farmers in exporting their produce and fetching a remunerative price.

She said that the workshop on turmeric crop held in Hyderabad last week thrashed out threadbare various issues relating to the crop sowing, yield and marketing.

MPLADS funds

Presiding over the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC) meeting as its chairperson, she assured that all anganwadis, women groups and newly formed gram panchayats would get permanent buildings under the NREGS.

The Nizamabad member of Parliament also announced the sanction of ₹51 lakh from her MPLADS fund for the construction of sheds for the convenience of patients and attendants at Dichpally, Balkonda and Navipet primary health centres.

Expressing pleasure at the increase in deliveries at PHCs and government hospitals, Ms. Kavitha said the KCR kits proved to be useful to mothers and newborn babies. She also felt happy with the decision to extend pensions to 451 filariasis affected patients.

Urban pensions

Taking part in the meeting local MLA Ganesh Gupta expressed ire at the DRDA authorities saying that despite repeated requests they were not taking initiative to increase number of social security pensions in the urban area. For four lakh population just 26,100 pensions were being given compared to 57,386 in Armoor, he pointed out.

Ms. Kavitha suggested to the Collector to look into the matter and sanction pensions to all the eligible persons. The Collector said that a special mela would be conducted and an action plan would be chalked out to address the issue.
