Son of watchman and housemaid bag 9.5 grade

Ramulu is a semi-literate, while Sattemma never went to school. But Srinivas wants to be the first one to enter into a college from his family.

Every year SSC results throw up some interesting talents who defy all odds to excel in the highly competitive era.

Golla Srinivas of St. Mary’s High School in Vijaynagar Colony in one such student. He secured 9.5 grade in SSC and stood first in the school, which predominantly consists of students from lower and lower middle class families.

Srinivas’s mother Sattemma is a housemaid who toils day long for meagre sum while his father Ramulu is a watchman in an apartment in Masab Tank. “My son’s score of 9.5 grade is the highest ever from his school,” says a proud Ramulu, who hails from Ennaram village in the backward Bantwaram mandal of Ranga Reddy district.

Sattemma never went to school while Ramulu is a semi-literate. But Srinivas wants to be the first one to enter into a college from his family and study engineering.

“I will study engineering after completing polytechnic course to gain skills in mechanical stream,” says Srinivas, who is a good artiste as well.

“Such success stories are an inspiration,” says Swapna Sundari, who resides in the apartment where Ramulu is a watchman.

Social Welfare students excel

The Telangana Social Welfare institutions have proved their mettle securing pass percentage of 87.82, more than 10 per cent above the State average of 77.56 per cent. Out of the 8,795 students who appeared, 7,724 students successfully got through the examinations. As many as 141 candidates secured A1 grade and 1,208 candidates secured A2 grade.

The achievement is incredible given the fact that most of them are first generation learners. They stand in the second highest position compared to the percentage of all the general and residential government institutions in the State.

Youngest to clear SSC

Agastya Jaiswal, who is said to be the first Telangana boy who entered 10 grade at the age of 8 years and 10 months last year, secured 7.5 grade in the SSC results. A student of St. Hills High School in Chandrayangutta, Agastya, was born on August 13, 2005. He has some unique capabilities like writing tables up to 100, apart from talking about various religions, telling the names of presidents of various countries, identifying the flags, and chant mantras and explain the meaning.
