Ryot makes suicide bid

Tension prevailed for some time at the Collectorate on Monday when a farmer made a suicide attempt. However, he was prevented by other farmers and the police.

Demanding the government to pay right compensation for the land lost under high tension transmission lines, farmers took out a rally from Children’s Park in the town to Collectorate. Though it was initially planned from Pothamshettypally village, the venue was changed as the police did not accord permission.

Demanding that Collector Bharati Hollikeri come out of her chamber and hear their problems, farmers squatted on the Collectorate premises.

Despite the Collector stating that she was ready to hear a delegation, farmers stuck to their demand, leading to tension.

At the same time, irritated over the development, a farmer tried to hang himself. .

This led to commotion for some time. Later, farmers burnt the memorandum they brought with them to submit to the Collector.
