Coinciding with the commencement of the budget session of the Telangana Assembly, the CPI (M) has decided to organise dharnas before the District Collectorates in Telangana on November 5 demanding compensation to the families of the farmers who had committed suicide. The dharna, being organised in association with other left parties, will also seek an immediate solution to the power crisis facing the State.
This was one of the decisions taken by the Telangana State Committee of CPI (M) during its three-day meeting held here. The Committee also resolved to hold the first party conference of the Telangana unit from February 26 to March 1 at the Nizam College ground. All India leaders of CPI (M), including Prakash Karat, will attend the programme.
Tammineni Veerabhadram, secretary, Telangana State committee, CPI (M), told presspersons on Monday that 50,000 red shirt volunteers of the party would approach 10 lakh households in the city and propagate the party’s programme. An equal number of households in the districts will also be contacted.

In the coming Assembly session, the CPI (M) will keep a close watch on the budget and see whether funds are allocated as per the promises made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. If there is insufficient allocation, the party will haul up the government. The Chief Minister had made a number of promises before election and after coming to power. “We will ensure that the promises are honoured and sufficient budget is released to fulfil them,” Mr. Veerabhadram said.
He said there were other issues like fee reimbursement, allotment of land to Dalits and regularisation of the services of both contract and outsourced workers. There has been a spurt in the number of assault cases on women and girls and yet the government is dragging its feet on the issue of appointing a chairperson to the Women’s Commission. “We will question the government on this,” Mr. Veerabhadram said.
He criticised the Modi government for remaining a mute spectator when the A.P and Telangana governments were squabbling over the question of power usage. He faulted the Centre for whittling down the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme by reducing the number of districts to 200 in the country. Even the selected districts were not being covered fully. For instance, in Nalgonda, only 10 mandals out of 59 were covered, in Khammam, just 8 out of 46 villages were covered and in Warangal, 6 mandals out of 42 were chosen.
