Old melodies regale film lovers

Centenary celebrations of silent and talkie cinema organised under the aegis of the Classic Cinema and Cultural Society

Melodies of old movies enliven people even today and cinema is an effective medium which impacts society to a great extent. New wave commercial pictures continue to leave their mark on different sections of the society, said noted poet, writer, and Additional Joint Collector Patnam Shesadri.

Attending as the chief guest at the centenary celebrations of the ‘mookie’ (silent) and talkie cinema organised under the aegis of the Classic Cinema and Cultural Society, Nizamabad, on Sunday, he deplored atrocities on girls and old women, children killing parents which are happening quite regularly in the modern society.

Senior artiste and chartered accountant Sreepada Kumara Sharma said the district produced many a famous producer and director. Pointing out some of the best cinemas produced by people of the district, he named

Dharmavaddi ,

Kathanayakudu , and

Pachhani Samsaram .

A noted poet and commentator V.P. Chandan Rao said that many youngmen from Banswada, Armoor, Kamareddy, Bodhan and Kotagiri produced cinemas and documentaries recently. He said

Aathreya , stars persons belonging to the district, finished shooting at several places.

Cinema critic and documentary producer Vaarala Anand said that youth need to be encouraged in the industry. He expressed the hope that the industry would progress by leaps and bounds as the new government offered so many incentives to it.

Film producer and Nandi awardee N. Gopalakrishna said that the Telugu cinema industry is lagging behind compared to other language film industries in South. He emphasised that there is an imperative need for bringing out good and message giving movies.

Cultural society vice-president and renowned poet A. Surya Prakash, who presided over the meeting, said that the society was floated to promote good pictures. The speakers enthralled the audience by rendering old melodies -- both in Telugu and Hindi. Society general secretary Meka Ramaswami and his wife Chayadevi, Vaarala Anand and his wife, and N. Gopalakrishna were honoured on the occasion.
