Telangana Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah on Wednesday gave clear indication that the government was not keen on enhancing the medical college fee.
In an attempt to put a lid on the uncertainty surrounding the fee structure in private medical colleges, he also made it clear that attempts by private medical colleges to hold an independent entrance test would be opposed tooth and nail.
While interacting with press persons here on Wednesday, Dr. Rajaiah hoped that teaching hospitals would not lose any MBBS seats this academic year.

The MCI has not renewed 100 MBBS seats at Nizamabad Medical College and 50 in Gandhi Medical College for 2014-15. “I personally spoke to MCI officials and have assured them of government support to improve infrastructure in teaching hospitals. We are capable of addressing the manpower issue but we need time to complete infrastructure improvements.
Last week, MCI teams came for inspections and I hope we will get a positive reply,” he said.

Clarifying on the counselling process, he said: “The existing system of EAMCET medical counselling being conducted by NTR Health University will continue this year. We will start our own Telangana Health University from next year. I am looking at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal for Health University because of the huge campus.” The Deputy Chief Minister was quite categorical about the mandatory rural service for PG students.
Mandatory rural service“They have to work in primary health centres in districts for a year after their PG. Depending on the availability of vacant posts, we are open to recruiting them on a permanent basis after they complete the mandatory rural service,” Dr. Rajaiah said. The government will lay stress on improving primary health care. “We want to create super-speciality hospitals in each district. We are chalking out plans and the budget needed to put such a plan in action. The epidemic season is about to start and we are coming out with a monsoon action plan also,” he added.
