NIT student ‘falls’ to death in Warangal

‘He was doing well in academics’

The body of a final year civil engineering student Sanketh Suryavanshi being shifted to MGM Hospital mortuary in Warangal on Sunday.

A final year civil engineering student of National Institute of Technology (NIT) reportedly jumped to death from the fifth floor of his hostel building on the campus here on Sunday.

One Sanketh Kumar Suryavamsi, hailing from Latur, Maharashtra, was staying at 1K hostel on the fifth floor. He allegedly jumped to his death around 2 p.m. The students who found him lying on the floor rushed him to a private hospital, where after two hour, he was declared dead. He was admitted with multiple injuries, including grievous head injury.

Cause unclear

Speaking to The Hindu , NIT Registrar Prof. Y.V. Reddy said the boy was suffering from severe fever for the past two days. In the afternoon on Sunday, he went to a private hospital with his friends and returned to the hostel at around 12.30 p.m. Around 2 p.m, he was found lying on the ground near his hostel. He was shifted to the hospital but in vain. “We are not clear whether he wilfully jumped or slipped due to consumption of medicines without eating anything. The police are investigating the case,” he said stating that the body was shifted to MGM Hospital mortuary. He said the boy was doing extremely well academically and had no complaint whatsoever.

The Registrar said the parents were informed of the incident and they are on their way.

Kazipet Circle Inspector of Police L. Ramesh said they were yet to register a case. The boy’s father Shatragna is a professor at Nanded University and he was on his way to Warangal. “We will receive a petition from the parents and then register a case,” he said.

Mr. Ramesh said it seems to be an accident, until proved in investigation.
