New wing in GHMC to oversee facade development project

Minister K.T. Rama Rao holds a meeting with MIM MLAs

A wing headed by an IAS officer would be constituted within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for completion of facade development project of Charminar in its lanes and by-lanes.

This was ordered by Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao at a meeting with the MLAs of Majlis e-Ittehadul Muslimeen in the Assembly on Wednesday to discuss development programmes in their respective constituencies, particularly conservation of Charminar and metro rail project.

A release later said the project involved replication of arches of Charminar at the entrance of shops and signboards in the lanes. The Minister perused various designs of facade development that were handed over to him by the designers.

He assured the MLAs that the government was committed to completing the metro rail project in old city. He assured them to concede their request that the State government include Nagole to Falaknuma and Falaknuma to Shamshabad airport corridors in the future expansion plans of metro rail project.

The release added that the Minister ordered water board officials to supply five million gallons of additional water a day to old city in the current summer. The development of Moazamjahi market would be personally supervised by Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar.
