New Democracy Naxal leader arrested

Traders told not to support

Mahabubabad SP N. Koti Reddy showing the arrest of CPI (ML) New Democracy leader and weapons seized from him at a press conference in Mahabubabad on Thursday.

The police arrested CPI (ML) New Democracy Mahabubabad division secretary Bandaru Ilaiah alias Veeranna and seized from him a 9mm carbine, a 9mm revolver and 28 rounds of ammunition and ₹ 33,000 from him.

Superintendent of Police N. Koti Reddy said they was also arrested one Bhanot Ramu alias Bheemudu.

Ilaiah (50) belonged belonged to Irusulapuram of Bayyaram mandal and joined the Naxal party three years ago after doing petty works. He was involved in shooting of S. Satyanarayana, another Naxal leader. He was also involved in eliminating three others M. Biksham, S. Veerabrahmam and Raghu belonging to Praja Prathighatana group.

The SP said cases have been booked on the two arrested Naxalites under Section 120 (B), 384 IPC, Section 10 and 13 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act Section 25 (1) (a) IA Act and Section 8 (1) of APPS Act.

Mr. Koti Reddy appealed to the general public and particularly the petty traders and contractors to keep the police informed about the movement of armed naxals in their respective area. “I appeal the contractors and business not to succumb and nurture these anti-social elements. The police will not reveal their identity of those giving us information,” he assured.
