Ropeway facility, cottages planned to attract pilgrims

The historic Sri Laxminarasimha Swamy Devasthanam on the hillocks of Nampally is set for a facelift.

Thanks to the initiative of Collector D. Krishna Bhaskar, the horticulture department has developed beautiful gardens, lawns and water fountains. Devotees visiting the temple would now be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the picturesque Mid Manair Dam reservoir as well as the temple town.

The shrine gained importance after the then Union Minister and present Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao took the initiative for its development. He was instrumental in construction of a ghat road to the shrine as earlier, pilgrims climbed steps to offer prayers.

With Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announcing release of ₹100 crore per annum for the development of Vemulawada, officials are planning a ropeway facility at the Nampally hillocks on the lines of Pilani Subramanya Swamy temple in Tamil Nadu. Sources said the Chief Minister has also directed authorities to construct cottages on the hillocks for pilgrims to stay and soak in the reservoir view.
