Mothers’ Day held at old age home

‘The elderly need moral support’

A group of youngsters engaged in social service has celebrated Mothers’ Day on Sunday at Sahrudaya Old Age Home at Prashanth Nagar in Hanamkonda.

The 50-odd inmates of the Home cut a specially-designed cake brought by Sulakshya Seva Samithi. Marking the occasion, fruits, badam milk, sweets and snacks were distributed to them and a special lunch was organised later.

Joint Director of Agriculture Usha Dayal opined “Respecting elders is one of the prominent features of Indian family system and mother is the first teacher and backbone of our support. Mother loves us unconditionally and sacrifices her life for the well-being of children.”

Warangal (Rural) District Public Relations Officer Kiranmai said that as responsible citizens, it is our duty to contribute towards an age-friendly society. We should keep in mind that it is because of the relentless efforts of the elderly, we are what we are today.

So, as a human being it is our prime duty to give back to them. “The less privileged elderly need our love and affection. Our little contribution will make their world healthier and happier,” she observed.

Founder and president of the Samithi Santhosh Manduva said that they had been celebrating Mothers’ Day for the past four years with these abandoned and homeless people as part of their objective of spreading love and affection and also with an intention to honour mothers and motherhood.

“These people need moral support than financial support. A warm hug, a gentle touch, a gesture of togetherness is what makes their lives happier,” he added.
