Model school teachers stage protest

Seek interim relief, dearness allowance and Telangana increment

Hundreds of teachers working in models schools took out a rally from Public Gardens to District Collectorate demanding interim relief, dearness allowance and Telangana increment, here on Tuesday. They gathered at the Public Gardens and went in a procession to the Collectorate where they staged a demonstration and raised slogans.

A delegation of the teachers met the Joint Collector P J Patil and submitted a memorandum.

Model school staff – D Srikanth, V Kiran Kumar, Jani Naik and others said the model school projects was shelved by the Central government and the State government had not taken a decision to continue the project or merge it with Education Department. The State Government could make use of the existing project for its flagship programme of KG to PG free education by according the PRC benefits and giving the Telangana increment to the staff working in the model schools. There are 30 models schools in the district with about 15,000 student enrolment in classes V to Intermediate second year and 550 teachers working in them. Due to the unrest among the teachers and their agitation, the functioning of the schools was affected since three days. The teachers vow to intensify their agitation at a time the SSC examinations were nearing. The principals who were not part of the ongoing agitation too decided to join the stir leading to closure of all model schools.

Dharna in Karimnagar

Karimnagar Special Correspondent adds: TS model schools teachers have staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Tuesday demanding that the government should solve their demands including tenth PRC, service rules, health cards, increments, dependent employment and others.

The model school teachers have arrived in a procession from Telangana chowk to Collectorate and staged dharna. Association president Varaprasad Chary, general secretary Irshad Ali and others were also present.
