Sarpanches belonging to 13 villages, which would be submerged under the Mid Manair Dam (MMD) project, have threatened to launch fast-unto-death programme from July 1 onwards if the government fails to provide suitable compensation to the land oustees.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, Sarpanches Peddi Naveen (Kodumunja), .M Ravi (Anupuram), A Tirupathi Yadav (Shabashpalli), B Murali (Sankepalli), Ch Mallesham (Arepalli), R Srinivas (Manwada), Project Land oustees JAC president K Ravinder and others demanded that the government should implement the two-bed room houses to the land oustees, employment to each household, compensation as per new Land Acquisition Act, all facilities at R&R Colonies, etc. They said that they had represented the issue to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao seven months ago, but in vain. Recollecting that Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao had also participated in maha dharna programme in 2008 demanding suitable compensation to the land oustees of the project, they said that the Chief Minister’s in-laws village Kodurupaka would also be submerged under the project, but the authorities have failed to provide compensation as per new norms.

Finding fault with the government for allocation of Rs 70,000 for the construction of houses under IAY scheme, they asked the amount would be not sufficient for the construction of basement and demanded the government to construct the two-bed room houses to all land oustees.
