Medak Church

The famous Medak Church is all set to usher in Christmas on Thursday. The Church was constructed by Charles Walker Posnett between 1914 and 1924 when the people of the area were reeling from the effects of a famine. It is said that the construction of the Church was taken up at the time to deal with the needs of people that arose at the time of the famine.

Christian preachers are known to have entered Medak in 1879 and there being a large number of Christians there, they took the opportunity to construct the Church.

The Church is the one of the best in India and built with pure white granite in gothic style. Anyone who visits the Church can understand the story of the Bible painted on the stained glass windows of the Church. However, this can be viewed only during daylight.

Made of Italian tiles, the bell tower of the Church stands 175-ft high. The Church can accommodate more than 5,000 pilgrims at any given time.

A large number of devotees are expected to arrive in Medak on Wednesday and the administration has been making arrangements for this. The Church and its surrounding areas have been decorated and illuminated with colourful lights.
