The attack on a newly-wed inter-caste couple in Hyderabad on Wednesday, less than a week after Pranay’s brutal killing, showed that there were more disapproving parents when it comes to marriage of choices and caste, said Pranay’s wife Amrutha.
“Parents should give a thought about their children’s future, before they think of their status. We are living in a society where we do not have the right to live with our loved one. It’s a shame,” she told The Hindu .
Reiterating that her fight against casteism would go on, Amrutha said the Facebook page ‘Justice for Pranay’ was nothing but a fight against injustices committed in the name of caste. “Now is the time for the government to act tough,” she said.

Earlier in the day, Pranay’s family – Amrutha Varshini, Balaswamay, Premalatha and Ajay – met District Collector Gaurav Uppal and Superintendent of Police A.V. Ranganath in Nalgonda. They were sanctioned a part of ₹8.25 lakh relief under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Rules-2016.
‘Speed up the case’
“We have requested the officials not to grant bail to Shravan, Amrutha’s uncle, and to speed up the case by constituting a fast-track court,” they said.

On Thursday, condolences kept pouring in for the family. Telugu Desam Party State president L. Ramana, Telangana Jana Samithi president M. Kodandaram and others visited them at their residence at Miryalaguda.
Prof. Kodandaram said Pranay’s murder had political involvement, and the SP’s disclaimer, stating that Shravan, one of the accused in the case, would get bail soon indicated that the district machinery was biased and the government was inefficient, he said.
Meanwhile, all the accused except Subhash Kumar alias Sharma, completed their medical check-up here and were remanded to judicial custody at Nalgonda jail. Sharma, who was brought here on a transit warrant from Samasthipur in Bihar, is being interrogated.
