Published - December 17, 2014 11:36 pm IST - MEDAK:

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said that the Manjeera water would be used to meet the requirements of Medak district while diverting Krishna water to cater to the drinking water needs of the twin cities.

At a review meeting held on Ghanpur anicut on Wednesday along with Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and others, the Chief Minister said that about 4.06 tmcft water was allocated for the anicut to irrigate 25,000 acres, but was able to cater to only 12,000 acres.

“There has been heavy silt in the canals for years and we have to clear it to use the full capacity of anicut. The anicut was neglected during the period of Andhra rulers and we are going to strengthen the project to its full capacity,” he said, adding that he would be sanctioning about Rs. 50 crore additionally for the anicut.
