Speaking to

The Hindu , a teacher and environment activist V. Gurunadha Rao said the new district status would help Mahabubabad, the oldest revenue taluk in the State, emerge as a new growth centre. However, it would have to face the challenge of tackling drinking water problem as it does not have a permanent source while shortage of government land may hinder infrastructure development.

According to him, Bayyaram mandal has rich deposits of iron ore, which would give a fillip to development of the area. National Highway-365 passes through Mahabubabad town and it has good railway connectivity too.

Mr. Ravinder Rao said Mahabubabad city lies between Warangal and Khammam. The State government has in principle agreed to the proposal of making Mahabubabad a new district. It’s likely to come into existence from August.
