The Khammam Eye Bank, which earned wide reputation for promoting voluntary eye donation in a big way, has recently launched ‘Nityannadanam scheme’ for the attendants of in-patients at the district headquarters hospital here. The Hindu Smashana Vatika Nirvahana Committee and Vikasa Tarangini have joined hands with the Khammam Eye Bank in this endeavour.

The Nityannadhanam programme is intended to serve food to the attendants of in-patients free of cost, said R.A. Padmanabham, secretary of the eye bank.

The government is providing free food to the in-patients at the hospital. However, there is no such facility available to the attendants of patients

In this backdrop, the free food scheme was launched last week keeping in view the difficulties being faced by the attendants of the in-patients due to lack of access to food at affordable price.
