The popular water bodies of the city — Osmansagar and Himayatsagar — are quite popular with the IT crowd who work and reside in the areas surrounding the lakes. Cyberabad police wants to give paramount importance to safety aspects of the IT crowd and general population from the city that throng the place in large numbers.
In this regard, the Cyberabad police took an important step to set up police stations near the two lakes. Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy inaugurated the Lake Police Stations on Sunday.
Besides being a recreation spot, both water bodies are drinking water sources for the city. Setting up of lake police stations is part of government’s lake protection programme, implying that police will not only watch over law and order but also strive to check encroachments on the fringes of the lakes.

“The police have a multiple task on hand. Apart from keeping a tab on bike racing, property and bodily offences, sexual harassment and abuse, the policemen will partner with different departments to prevent trespassing and encroachments in the Full Tank Level (FTL) of the lakes,” a senior police official said.
The authorities also plan to fence both lakes to prevent trespassing. “Suicides and drowning cases are frequently reported here. Proper patrolling will help in bringing down the cases,” the official said.

To ensure round-the-clock patrolling, two patrol cars have been provided to the teams. Additionally, the Irrigation Department will also be chipping in with two boats. The Home Minister promised government support to the police and other departments to protect the lakes.
