With the campaigning coming to end on Tuesday evening, the contesting trade unions have intensified their electioneering for the recognised union elections of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in the Ramagundam coal belt region on Monday.

Due to continuous holidays, the trade union leaders and the TRS leaders have launched door-to-door campaign in the colonies of the coal miners in the region.

Nizamabad Member of Parliament Kavitha, who is also honorary president of Telangana Boggu Ghani Karimika Sangham (TGBKS), affiliated to TRS, had launched electioneering in Ramagundam coal belt region on Monday.

Kavitha’s campaign had pepped up the morale of the TGBKS leaders with her aggressive and convincing message to the coal miners on the revival of the dependent employment scheme and other issues. Participating in the TGBKS workers meeting, she said that the national trade unions are responsible for the abolition of dependent employment scheme in Singareni.

Reiterating that the TRS government was committed to fulfil its promise of reviving dependent employment scheme, she alleged that the opposition parties are making a hue and cry over the issue as they are scared of losing in the elections. She promised to open more underground mines and provide employment to local youth.

She also announced the fee reimbursement for children of coal miners if they secure seats in IITs and IIMs.

At a gate meeting with the TGBKS workers at OCP-1, the TGBKS honorary president highlighted the achievements made by the TRS government, including waiver of professional tax worth ₹175 crore to miners. Promising to ensure three-phase power supply to the colonies of coal miners, she promised to provide corporate medical treatment to miners and their family members.

Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Eatala Rajender, who accompanied the MP, said that the opposition trade unions are confusing coal miners on the revival of dependent employment scheme and reiterated that the government is committed to fulfil the promise. He also said that the TRS Government alone had provided 25% of profits as bonus to coal miners.

In the meantime, the national trade unions -- AITUC, INTUC, HMS, BMS, CITU and others -- also participated in the door-to-door campaign.
