District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad expressed his ire against the poor quality and unscientific construction of side drains along the Roads and Buildings (R&B) roads in various parts of the town.
Responding to a complaint lodged by Mayor S. Ravinder Singh about the water-logged drains and stagnation of water on Wednesday, the Collector along with Municipal Commissioner K. Shashanka inspected the drains along Court Crossroads to the SRR College Road, Indira Chowk to Ramnagar TV tower and Mancherial Crossroads to Apollo Reach Hospital roads on Thursday.
Inspecting the water-logged drains, the Collector pulled up the R&B officials for the stagnation of water and breeding of mosquitoes. He said that the drains should be constructed in such a way that the water would flow smoothly. In contrary, the drains were constructed in an unscientific manner causing stagnation of water without any movement anywhere, he said.

Instructing the R&B officials to construct wider cross culverts at all drains for smooth movement of drain water, he said that the R&B officials should ensure that there was no stagnation of water in any drain in the town. He said that there was mosquito menace and outbreak of diseases due to breeding of mosquitoes in the stagnated drain waters.
He also directed them to expedite the completion of beautification of 14.5-km R&B roads at the earliest and avoid inconvenience to the people. R&B Executive Engineer Raghavachary, Municipal EE Mohan Kumar and others were also present.
The Karimnagar municipal officials had removed stagnated water from the drains by using the septic suction machines on Wednesday.
