Karimnagar BJP celebrates as Vidyasagar Rao is appointed as Governor of Maharashtra

The Bharatiya Janata Party Karimnagar unit is in a celebratory mode after BJP senior leader from the district, Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao was appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra state.

Born on February 4 in 1942 in Nagaram village of Konaraopeta mandal, he is the youngest son of Ch. Srinivas Rao and Chandramma. He completed his schooling in Vemulawada and PUC in Hyderabad and B. Sc in Nanded of Maharashtra. Later, he did his LLB from Osmania University and started practicing law from 1973 onwards.

He went to jail during the emergency period. He joined politics as member from Jan Sangh and represented the BJP in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Metpally assembly segment from 1985 to 1998. He entered into the Parliament by winning Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency in 1998 and in 1999.

He was also the BJP state president for some time.

He was Union minister of State for Home affairs in the cabinet of Atal Behari Vajpayee in 1999. Later, his portfolio was changed to Union Minister of state for Commerce and Industry.

His elder brothers are Ch Rajeshwara Rao is a former Communist leader and another brother is Ch Hanumantha Rao who was the chancellor of Hyderabad Central University.
