ollowing non-availability of water in Manakondur and Kothapalli village tanks and no inflows into Chintakunta canal, the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) has made alternative arrangement for the smooth conduct of Ganesha immersion at Kakatiya canal of SRSP on the outskirts of the town.

Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar, Mayor S. Ravinder Singh, Municipal Commissioner K.V. Ramana Chary, DSP J. Rama Rao, RDO Chandrashekhar and others inspected the immersion sites on Friday and found that they were not big enough for immersion of large idols due to low water level.

They have decided to construct a bund across the Kakatiya canal and release water from the LMD reservoir into the canal to ensure smooth conduct of Ganesha immersion on Saturday. Disclosing this to newsmen on Friday, Mr. Kamalakar said they would construct a bund across the canal using sand bags and tarpaulin sheets to store water. Expressing concern over deficit rainfall and poor inflows into water bodies, he said it’s a first to immerse Ganesha idols in the Kakatiya canal by using water from the LMD reservoir.

“All our efforts to get water released from the SRSP went in vain. So we are using some cusecs available in the LMD for immersion without wasting much,” he maintained. He also appealed to Ganesha mandap organisers to cooperate with the district authorities during immersion.

He said more than 60 per cent of large idols would be immersed in the bund; about 35 per cent of small idols would be diverted to Manakondur lake and the remaining five per cent to Kothapalli tank.
