YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday charged Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao with acting dictatorially like ‘Hitler’ and deplored his adamant stand with regard to release of water downstream after meeting the irrigation needs of Telangana.

The Leader of the Opposition, who launched ‘jala deeksha’, a three-day hunger strike, near Nandyal check-post in Kurnool city around noon, resented Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s stoic silence on the projects being built by the Telangana government on the rivers of Krishna and Godavari without requisite permission from the Central Water Commission, River Management Boards and the Apex Council.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy asked Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao to state how Andhra Pradesh, a downstream State, would get the Krishna water if irrigation projects were built illegally in Telangana, contravening the provisions of Section 84 of A.P. Reorganisation Act. He questioned Mr. Chandrababu Naidu for failing to react to Telangana usurping the Krishna waters and being unconcerned at the impending loss to A.P.

Projects on the Krishna river have a live storage of 1,750 tmcft, but about 200 to 300 tmcft more was being stored unauthorisedly, the YSRC chief said.
