The Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Utnoor, will pay Rs. 400 to villagers of the far-flung Gundala in Tiryani mandal who shift patients to Dandepalli primary health centre.

As the habitation – infested by naxalites – is not accessible as it has no proper approach road, villagers carry all the patients on a cot traversing through jungles for six kilometres to Dandepalli mandal headquarters.

The decision to pay money came after ITDA project officer R.K. Karnan interacted with villagers during his visit there on Wednesday.

The Adivasis pointed out that they lose precious wage for at least two days whenever there is an emergency to shift patients.

Mr. Karnan had to travel on a dirt track to reach Gundala in order to take stock of the drought situation.

He promised to connect an overhead water tank with an open well in a dry local tank through a pipeline so that other habitations in the vicinity can also get drinking water.

On making the village accessible by laying roads, the project officer suggested the villagers lay a gravel track till the required permission for a permanent road is given by the Forest Department.

He said the road laying work could be done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Mr. Karnan also asked officials to appoint two local youths as contract teachers at the local school.

He also asked them to replace the Anganwadi teacher.
