Union Minister for Law, Justice and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad who was in Hyderabad on Sunday for a BJP meeting, said India is a changing giant.
Mr. Prasad told the meeting that the South-Asia head of a major IT firm was of the view that many bright Indian minds rolled out of prestigious science, engineering and management institutions to grow as job-givers instead of job-seekers as most of them were taking the start-up route to stand-up in their field of specialisation. The top IT professional had told him that toppers from the major Indian educational institutions used to turn up for campus selections but now they were lining up to launch their own start-ups with the proactive encouragement from the government. Mr. Prasad said it was a clear indication of changing India!

Innovative idea, but it needs implementation

Investment on high cost equipment for farm mechanisation has been a matter of grave concern for farmers and the issue has been nagging the administration too for long.
A senior Agriculture Department official has come up with an innovative idea to overcome the problem, facilitating hiring of the machines whenever necessary on the lines of call taxis. The idea involves encouraging entrepreneurs to purchase the equipment and pool it so that farmers can rent the machines whenever required.
This is at much lower costs as compared with the capital expenditure on purchasing them and will also ensure that their maintenance is also met. The idea is of course innovative, but whether any concrete action will be initiated in this direction has to be waited and seen.

Engineering colleges to shut shop
At least eight private engineering colleges have sought no objection certificates from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University - Hyderabad to close down their institutions.
The sad side of the story is that the colleges want to close down because the seats available with them were not getting filled.
This was illustrated by figures in 2018-19 academic year when 17 government and 188 private engineering colleges were permitted to carry out admissions. Out of 96,518 seats available in these colleges, only 68,296 seats were filled.
Canine bows out
The strength of trained dogs in detection of crime is enormous. The police have a special place for dogs in their routine law and order duties.
The dogs are taken to the scene of crime to sniff the odour left behind by perpetrators and track them down accurately.
The evidence gathered by canine colleagues of police is often treated without doubt.
When one of them dies, it is natural that the animal is given its due respect.
The same was done to Stella -- which formed part of the dog squad of police in Warangal town for seven years.
The last rites of Stella were performed with police honours at the Commissionerate in the presence of other dogs of the squad.
Donate blood and show your affection
Blood donation is considered the best way to show your affection to someone you admire, particularly on their birthdays. This is more so with political leaders who are easily accessible to public.
It was no wonder that at the birthday of former Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy last week, a blood donation camp at his native Badepalli village near Jadcherla fetched a record 2,126 units of blood.
