If a 9-month pregnant woman runs for 5 km and notches up an incredible feat, it is surely her exhilarating moment!

Kamarapu Laxmi (42), a resident of Bhagathnagar here, set a new record on Sunday by running 5 km, starting from Ambedkar Stadium. Even during her first delivery, she had run the same distance.

This time too, she decided to run again to create awareness on the protection of girl child and also to extend solidarity to the Mission Kakatiya programme.

She began her run by raising the slogan

Peth mein ladki ko bachao, gaon mein taalab bachao (Save the girl child in mother’s womb, save tanks in villages) and covered 5 km in 30 minutes and 20 seconds. Her feat was witnessed by a huge gathering, including two gynaecologists, District Sports Development Officer and other dignitaries. An ambulance and paramedical staff were kept ready to assist Laxmi in case of any problem. “I am running since the last four years and this is not new to me,” she said.

Editor of Telangana Book of Records M. Vijayabhaskar presented her a certificate. Laxmi’s husband Ravi said they would send the details of her achievement to Guinness Book of Records.
