IMA to lead campaign against anemia

Medical camps to be held in schools

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar chapter in association with the BN Rao Health Foundation and other organizations has decided to participate in a campaign for anemia-free Karimnagar district by conducting free medical camps and distribution of medicines and nutritious food.

At a press conference here on Friday, president of the BN Rao Health Foundation B.N. Rao said that they had decided to work towards eradicating anemia among all school-going children in the district within nine months.

As part of the campaign, the doctors would conduct medical camps in all government schools and conduct hemoglobin tests to all the 22,000-odd students from the start of academic year in June.

After identifying the students suffering anemia, they would provide medicines and nutritional supplements for a period of three months.

Review tests

After three months they would conduct a test and depending upon the requirement of the individuals continue medicines and nutritional food. The campaign is expected to be over in nine months, he maintained.

IMA Karimnagar chapter president Md. Aleem said that they had decided to participate in the national level anemia-free India campaign taken up by the IMA. Senior member of the IMA Vijaylaxmi said that they would accord priority to providing medical assistance to adolescent girls and also conduct medical awareness programme and give tips about the healthy eating habits and hygiene, among others. IMA members Sagar Rao, Pullela Pawan, Madhusudhan Rao and others were also present.
