Decked up: Workers of the TRS prepare for the 16th plenary at Kompally on the outskirts of Hyderabad

The annual plenary of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will be held on a sprawling open area, adjoining the highway at Kompally here, on Friday. The event will be marked by the election of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as the party president for the eighth time.

His was the only nomination to be filed for the post when the deadline closed on Tuesday. The election of the president and, simultaneously, membership drive of the party take place every two years. The party claimed to have enrolled over 74 lakh members this time which was a 50 per cent increase over the last time.

The party made massive arrangements for about 14,000 delegates, comprising its mandal presidents right up to Ministers, MPs and legislators, who will be seated under a pandal that came up over seven acres for the plenary. Sprinklers to spray water to keep the accommodation cool against the hot weather conditions were arranged. Sixty acres were allotted for the parking of vehicles.
