A division Bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice A Shankar Narayana on Wednesday admitted a PIL filed challenging the decision of the Telangana government increasing fee for admission into management quota seats in minority and non-minority private unaided medical and colleges for the academic year 2014-15.
The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee represented by its president D Balaraju. The Telangana government issued orders in August amending the fee structure for C1-category management quota seats from Rs.5.5 lakh to Rs.9 lakh in non-minority institutions and for B1-category seats in minority institutions from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh.
The petitioner complained that the government permitted private managements to award 15 per cent marks as weightage to the student during the interview and contended that this decision will affect the meritorious students. The Bench wanted to know whether such interview and marks for such interview is in practice anywhere else. The respondents were asked to file counter affidavits and the case is adjourned.

Justice Raja Elango of the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday stayed further proceedings in criminal case registered against film director and producer Ramgopal Varma in Saroornagar police station for two weeks.
Saroornagar police had registered a case against Varma on a complaint by Karunasagar, practicing advocate, for allegedly making controversial comments on Lord Ganesha. The police booked case against Varma under the Sections 153A, 505, 298 and 504. The director approached the High Court contending that his tweets are unintentional and he already expressed regrets for it. The case will now be listed after two weeks.
