Non-performing legislators told to pull up socks; counter Opposition

Halfway through its first term in the office, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leadership has asked the “non-performing and below-par” legislators to pull up their socks and improve their image among the electorate by moving closer to people and ensuring better delivery of government schemes and programmes in their constituencies.

Apart from giving directions to party legislators on the strategy to adopted on the floor of the Assembly and Council to counter the Opposition’s expected efforts to show the government in poor light, party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was understood to have showed the legislators their performance in the mirror of two survey results.

Sources in the ruling party stated that Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao told the legislators that the party could win 100 to 106 seats in the Assembly, if the elections were held now and also reeled out progress report about the performance of the government as an entity.

The two surveys were understood to have been got conducted by the party five months back and the second a couple of weeks back.

However, during the district-wise dissection of the individual legislators’ performance after the legislature party meeting the Chief Minister was understood to have issued subtle but clear indication to under-performers with consequences of “changing some of the sitting members for the next election, if need be”.

The party is likely to go for more such surveys in the coming days to work on remedial measures as and when required.

Attend Assembly

The legislature party meeting, held on the eve of the commencement of the budget session, went on for over four hours.

Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao was said to have told all the legislators to be present during the legislature sittings and prepare themselves thoroughly on the given subjects so as to be in a position to counter any attempt by the Opposition to target the government.

It is stated that the legislators were also told to analyse their performance based on the survey reports and work on the areas where they were found to be weak or wanting.

The MLAs were also told to focus on the needs of their electorate and work for their fulfilment.
