‘Govt. should celebrate it’

Freedom fighter Prabhakar Rao Deshpande on Tuesday opined that the State government should celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day officially on September 17. “The government should do so as the liberation of Hyderabad has great relevance in the history of this State,” he observed.

Talking to The Hindu at his Nirmal residence, the 84-year-old freedom fighter from Boath mandal headquarter pointed out that the day is being celebrated in those former parts of Hyderabad which are now part of Maharashtra and Karnataka State. “There is no reason why we should not celebrate liberation of Hyderabad from the clutches of the Nizam,” he questioned.
