Activists of TRS, Cong. attack each other over ‘who will win in 2019’

Activists of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the Congress pelt stones at each other, allegedly over ‘who would win the Nagarjunasagar constituency in 2019’ late on Monday evening.

The altercation that started as a petty quarrel near ‘pylon pillar’ here resulted in members on both sides being injured. Sources said activists of both parties were present for Bonalu celebrations, and each party showed its strength by displaying more flex boards than the other.

Initially, some Congress displays were allegedly pulled down by the TRS members and then they were given a taste of their own medicine. But their argument, whether Nagarjunasagar MLA Jana Reddy would win the seat or the TRS would paint it pink in the upcoming elections escalated into a slanging match, said sources.

Soon, Congress supporters reacted with loud sloganeering, hailing Mr. Jana Reddy and his son, and the TRS activists picked up sticks and stones, sources added.

While members of both sides received injuries, Congressmen Jangaiah, Ramesh and Santosh were seen bleeding and taken to the Kamala Nehru Hospital. Police said it was a show of strength by both parties that led to violence. Three from the Congress and two from the TRS received injuries. “They were drunk. Both parties have filed complaints against each other,” sub inspector Seenaiah said.
