New system to be introduced at Secunderabad station to check congestion

Vehicle-owners who park their vehicles at Secunderabad railway station have to cough up ₹100 for up to 15 minutes, ₹200 for up to 30 minutes and ₹1,000-plus towing charges for more than half-an-hour parking as per the new system.

A new system is being put in place at the Secunderabad railway station to prevent people from parking vehicles for an inordinately long time in the circulation area.

Presently, keeping the vehicle inside the premises for pick-up or drop purposes is free for five minutes. But as per the new system, staying in the circulation area beyond those five minutes would be chargeable — ₹100 for up to 15 minutes, ₹200 for up to 30 minutes and ₹1,000-plus towing charges for more than half an hour. In case, one loses the parking ticket on which the entry time is recorded, ₹500 has to be paid as penalty.

However, if one sticks to rules and parks vehicles in designated areas at the station’s back-end, one has to pay just ₹12 for a two-wheeler and ₹47 for a car, for the first two hours. The charges have been mentioned on display boards at the station entrance as well as on the tickets. As of now, tickets are being issued, but the system is yet to be implemented. Authorities believe that the system would serve as a deterrent for people who leave their vehicles unattended instead of parking them in designated areas. A booth is set up towards the back-end of the station where tickets are issued.
