Formation Day a low-key affair in schools

May 29, 2017 12:10 am | Updated 12:10 am IST - KARIMNAGAR

Owing to summer vacation, the event to be celebrated only by teachers

Even as the State government has given clear instructions to all the government schools to celebrate the Telangana Formation Day on June 2, the teaching community fears not doing so owing to the ongoing summer holidays till June 12 in the State.

This time around, the celebrations would be a low-key affair with only teachers taking part in the event.

“We are very much interested in celebrating the formation day. But how would we do that without students. Even if we inform them to attend the celebrations, they would not, both due to the heat wave conditions and they being away from home,” said several teachers in the district.

They opined that the government should stop celebrating the formation day in schools, or reopen them on June 1 itself to conduct the event.

Telangana Rashtra Teachers’ Federation (TRTF) district president M. Prathap Reddy said hoisting the national flag on Telangana Formation Day has been a new practise but one of immense pride in rural areas.

“The last two years, we were forced to celebrate the festival without students,” he said.

If the government does not reopen schools before June 1, the formation day would remain a low-key affair in the educational institutions, he said, adding that it was important for the present generation to know about Telangana and its struggle.
